Hypochlorite Seed Soak
Duration: Same Day
Also called a Bleach Test, this method provides timely damage information for soybean seed. While the test will also work using water, the use of bleach and water speeds up the process. Very useful in predicting a result of the warm germination test IF the seed sample doesn’t have an issue with fungi.
Hypochlorite Seed Soak
Test Details
Seeds are placed in 1% sodium hypochlorite for five or ten minutes. Seeds are removed from the petri dishes if they become oblong and the seed coat pulls away from the seed. This indicates that there has been significant (severe) damage to the seed coat. If the seed coat becomes wrinkled there is less damage and there isn’t damage if it remains smooth.
