Why Does Sample Processing Take Longer at Certain Times of the Year?
The Iowa State University Seed Laboratory employs university students to support our laboratory operations. This is a unique and important part of our Seed Lab. It provides students with valuable hands-on experience and an opportunity to learn more about the seed industry and laboratory operations. We are proud to contribute to the education and development of students interested in the seed business.
Because our student employees follow the Iowa State University academic calendar, staffing levels can vary throughout the year. During university breaks, fewer student employees are available, which may result in longer processing times.
Customers should be aware of the following periods when staffing may be reduced:
- Thanksgiving Break: Student employees are generally away for the entire week.
- Christmas/Winter Break: Student employees are generally away from mid-December through mid-January.
- Spring Break: Dates vary each year and will be communicated through our newsletter.
- Before the Fall Semester: Student staffing may be limited during the week leading up to the start of the fall semester as schedules change and students return to campus.
