Test Overview
Duration: Typically 7 days
Carryover refuge-in-a-bag (RIB) corn can be tested to evaluate the germination of both the main seed component and the refuge component, as well as the performance of the blended seed lot under cold stress.
Because the refuge seed represents only a small percentage of the blend, a larger sample is required to obtain enough refuge seed for separate evaluation.
Test Details
For a typical 95/5 RIB blend, testing includes:
- A 400-seed standard germination test on the main seed component
- A 200-seed standard germination test on the refuge component
- A 200-seed cold test on the blended seed lot
Together, these tests provide an assessment of the germination of both components of the RIB product and the performance of the blended seed lot under cold stress.
Contact Customer Care if your RIB blend contains a different refuge percentage or if you are unsure which testing is appropriate.
Sample Requirements
For a typical 95/5 RIB blend, please submit 5–8 pounds of seed to provide sufficient refuge seed for testing.
Larger samples may be required for blends containing a smaller percentage of refuge seed.
